What do we mean when we say solid wood countertop? Generally, our more homogeneous wooden pieces can be considered solid.  For example, this second growth redwood slab is a prime example of a solid wood countertop slab. Something of such a clear distinction and free of details is what we would call solid wood.

Working with this type of wood is easier than working with figured redwood. There is less natural details, elements and kinks to consider. If you are crafting or planning a DIY beginner lumber project, we recommend you start with a solid wood slab.
