What You Need To Know When Purchasing Redwood

If you’re ready to order your unique redwood slab or piece, or have any questions,
call our office at (707) 826 – 9663 or email us at [email protected].

About Salvaged Wood

Salvaged wood tends to have ‘defects’ such as small cracks (checking), knots, and curly or burly grain. This character adds to the rustic appeal and value of the wood. If you require a perfect, defect-free piece, they are available but not common. Please let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll do our best to find you some options.

What is a “Live Edge”?

A “live” edge is the natural edge of the tree with the bark removed. People often desire this look in rustic design. In many cases a buyer will need a specific size for their project. Unfortunately, nature doesn’t usually create the exact size you need. In these cases our experienced staff can shape and manipulate the wood in almost any way. From custom carved edges to a straight cut modern look, we can do it all. When inquiring about purchasing redwood, please let us know what size and dimensions you are interested in.

Finishing

We offer our products anywhere from unfinished to fully finished and anywhere in between. We finish our mantels with a wipe-on Danish oil. This is is a matte finish that highlights the color and character of the wood nicely. To maintain your finished mantel, we suggest applying more oil when it starts to look “dry”. Please see our Installation & Care section under our fireplace mantels for more information. If you require a different finish, please let us know. Larger products, like dining tables and counter tops, are finished with a protective finish designed for your specific use and sheen preference. When purchasing redwood – consider where it will be used. Our finishers are professionals who have been in the business for many years. You can find more information on the finishing options we offer in this blog post.
