General Information

About Salvage Wood

Salvage wood tends to have ‘defects’ such as small cracks (checking), knots, and curly or burly grain. This character adds to the rustic appeal and value of the wood. If you require a perfect, defect-free piece they are available but not common, please let us know.

What is a “Live Edge”?

A “live” edge is the natural edge of the tree with the bark removed. This look is often desired in rustic design. In many cases a specific size will be needed for your project and nature doesn’t usually create the exact size you need. In these cases our experienced staff can shape and manipulate the wood in almost any way. From custom carved edges to a straight cut modern look, we can do it all.

We offer our products unfinished to fully finished and anywhere in between. Our mantels are finished with a wipe-on Danish oil, which is a matte finish that highlights the color and character of the wood nicely. Occasional maintenance of applying more oil is suggested when it appears to look “dry”. Please see our Installation & Care section under our fireplace mantels for more information. If you require a different finish please let us know. Our larger products, like dining tables and counter tops, are professionally finished and built with a protective finish designed for your specific use and sheen preference.
