General Information

About Salvage Wood

Salvage wood tends to have ‘defects’ such as small cracks (checking), knots, and curly or burly grain. This character adds to the rustic appeal and value of the wood. If you require a perfect, defect-free piece they are available but not common, please let us know.

What is a “Live Edge”?

A “live” edge is the natural edge of the tree with the bark removed. This look is often desired in rustic design. In many cases a specific size will be needed for your project and nature doesn’t usually create the exact size you need. In these cases our experienced staff can shape and manipulate the wood in almost any way. From custom carved edges to a straight cut modern look, we can do it all.

Finishing

We offer our products unfinished to fully finished and anywhere in between. Our mantels are finished with a wipe-on Danish oil, which is a matte finish that highlights the color and character of the wood nicely. Occasional maintenance of applying more oil is suggested when it appears to look “dry”. Please see our Installation & Care section under our fireplace mantels for more information. If you require a different finish please let us know. Our larger products, like dining tables and counter tops, are professionally finished and built with a protective finish designed for your specific use and sheen preference.

Sales and Deposits

Due to the one-of-a-kind nature of our products, all sales are considered final. If, however, there are any problems with your order due to defects in the material beyond the usual “rustic” characteristics, we stand by our product and will strive to make you happy. Our main goal is customer satisfaction and providing you with a product that you will enjoy for years to come. We rely on word of mouth advertising and believe that your satisfaction has a direct affect on our future.

A 50% deposit is required to hold any material for more than 24 hours. Deposits are non-refundable unless discussed otherwise due to your unique situation.

Additional packing fees apply for larger orders. We will determine the fee based on the size of your particular order.

Orders Damaged in Transit

Orders must be inspected upon arrival and and any damage noted with the carrier prior to signing for the shipment. In the unlikely event that your order is damaged in transit and is properly documented with the carrier, we either repair or replace your order in a timely manner. Each occurrence is assessed on a case by case basis. Redwood Burl, Inc cannot be held responsible for damaged orders that are not properly documented and promptly reported.

Humidity Levels and Wood Products

Do you know the humidity levels in your home? You may be surprised to learn that it is extremely important not only for your health but for all the wood products in your home. It is recommended that your home humidity level be between 35-45%. We cannot be held responsible for any damage to our material that is caused by improper climate conditions.
